However, when Eugene finds the sash in Edmund's possession, Edmund admits he stole it himself in his desperate attempts to spend time together and be a part of Eugene's life. Furious over his father's deception, Eugene decides to return to Corona, but goes back after learning the Stabbingtons have captured him, but falls into a trap and becomes stuck in a cave. During his entrapment, Eugene discovers Edmund's satchel contains his childhood toys, causing him to realize Edmund has been watching over him and is soon rescued by Rapunzel. Together, Eugene and Rapunzel succeed in saving Edmund and reforming the Stabbingtons, but the sash is unfortunately destroyed in the chaos. By nightfall, Edmund gifts Eugene a brand-new sash with colors based on their favorite Flynn Rider book and at last, Eugene begins to forgive Edmund, embracing and acknowledging him as his father, finally beginning a real genuine familial relationship.
Cinderella’s Final Design
She holds this pose for approximately 60 frames with nothing more than some subtle eye movement and blinks. The eyes and her blinking show her inner thought process as she realises she is still there with Flynn. Leading the action with her eyes, she turns to look at Flynn who has prepared two lanterns for them to release into the night sky. At this point Rapunzel’s movement changes from slow and deeply thoughtful to an almost childlike excitement as she hurries to sit down with Flynn. Cinderella on the other hand achieves a comfortable and intimate world through the use of flowing lines arranged in rhythms that create graceful and appealing compositions. (10) As something created on a computer, 3D CG animation often appears inorganic and ridged.

But word from Disney is, he’s inspired by a mishmash of cultures—so pinning down one ethnicity is like trying to catch a greased pig. When it comes to baby making, Rapunzel was no lightweight, once you dive into the sequels and TV shows. She and Flynn, or Eugene—potato, po-tah-to—ended up with a daughter named Ruby, for sure. That one weapon in Flynn’s arsenal that even he is convinced can drop anyone to their knees. The smolder’s birth right on screen signifies Flynn’s confidence in his allure, but audiences received it with a loving roll of the eyes, recognizing the parody of overt machismo. He is ultimately revealed to be of royal blood; the long-lost Prince of the Dark Kingdom, and only child of King Edmund and his late wife.

Eventually, they succeed in retrieving Lord Demanitus book and altogether Eugene, Rapunzel along with their friends, family and allies return to Corona and set their plan into motion and begin to build the Demanitus device in Corona Castle. Following Cassandra's return, the entire kingdom begin to prepare themselves for her next attack. Although Eugene faces uncertainty with the decision, he eventually accepts the honor of Corona's newest Captain of the Guard after making peace with his past and former life as Flynn Rider. Despite their best efforts, however, everyone is forced to flee to the outskirts of the kingdom as Cassandra succeeds in taking over Corona. However, as the journey to the Dark Kingdom is nearing its end, Eugene receives a final warning from the ancient scientist and sorcerer, Lord Demanitus that a member of the group will turn against Rapunzel. Eugene becomes worried about the prophecy and when the group finally arrives at the Dark Kingdom, he finds himself separated from Rapunzel and makes a shocking discovery that he is the long-lost son of King Edmund, the ruler of the Dark Kingdom.
Counting as a prince anyone who has a corresponding official Disney Princess, the next few leading men are Aladdin, John Smith, Li Shang, and Naveen. For the first time, thanks to Ashman’s influence, male leads are getting ‘I want’ songs. Aladdin still has shades of a more sanitized matinee idol, but he’s also chatty, witty – and a criminal. We’ll skip over the white colonialist voiced by an alleged anti-semite misogynist (who also happens to be a character so boring a greedy pug out-performs him). Li Shang frustratingly has a white man’s singing voice, but a hell of a banger to belt out.

Jane Porter was always planned to be the prim and proper counterpart to Tarzan’s wild personality and background, and this concept art reflects that. In “Hercules,” Hades' look has a much more toned down color, and there’s no use of the color red in his character at all. His red horns were swapped out for blue, fiery hair and his red outfit was switched with a gray outfit that matched Classical Greek styles.
During the Baron's formal announcement of the union, Rapunzel is present and tries to talk to Eugene. Realizing marriage is his only hope of saving Lance, Eugene leaves Rapunzel for Stalyan. After almost losing Eugene, Rapunzel comes to realize how much she really loves him, and nearly proposes on the spot. Eugene, however, requests that she waits until she's truly ready to settle down, not wanting to take away her freedom. Although Rapunzel accepts, she shows signs of disappointment in Eugene's decision to wait, but regardless is happy to be together again with him once more.

The guards continue to pursue Rider, but most of them are evaded, while the captain of the guards, accompanied by his loyal horse Maximus, continue on, with Flynn eventually knocking out the captain and temporarily seizing control of Maximus' saddle. This is short-lived, as Maximus is just as dedicated to arresting Flynn, and the two rivals engage in a scuffle that results in both them and the satchel holding the crown, falling over a cliff. Flynn escapes Maximus with the satchel in hand and fearfully searches for a place of refuge. With time, he stumbles upon a hidden valley, housing a mysterious tower, and quickly climbs into the household at its peak. Other inspiration came in the form of personalities, such as David Beckham and Clark Gable. In order to achieve this extension of the Disney aesthetic, there was a need to develop new creative processes and technologies that would allow the animators to use the 3D medium in a more traditional way. For example, by using a digital drawing device known as a Wacom Cintiq, Keane was able to critique the CG animator’s work by drawing on top of their animation on the computer. Keane’s “draw-overs” and animation notes allowed the character animators to refine their CG animation to create an organic feel that resonated with the traditional Disney aesthetic. Rapunzel’s hair forms an important part of the story and character action, it was therefore ideal for the hair to respond to high levels of art direction.
However, when he climbs jubilantly through the tower window, he finds Rapunzel gagged and chained to the wall. He pauses for a second, evidently confused and shocked, and is then mortally stabbed by Mother Gothel. Rapunzel resists her and refuses to go willingly, but then promises to submit to Mother Gothel if she will only let her heal Eugene.
Loosely based on the prince in the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Rapunzel", Flynn is a wanted thief who seeks refuge in Rapunzel's tower after stealing a crown. Blackmailed by Rapunzel into taking her to see the kingdom's floating lanterns in time for her eighteenth birthday, Flynn undergoes a change of heart as he gradually begins to fall in love with Rapunzel. Flynn was created by screenwriter Dan Fogelman and directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard because they felt that the incarcerated Rapunzel needed someone to escort her out of the tower. He was conceived as a thief as opposed to a traditional prince in favor of making him a funnier and edgier character. Originally written as a British farmer, Flynn was ultimately developed into a swashbuckling thief inspired by fictional characters Han Solo and Indiana Jones, and actors Gene Kelly and Errol Flynn; the alias Flynn Rider was named after the latter.
The eye shape, pupil motion, blinking and the eyebrows work together to communicate character emotion, thought process and subtext. The saccadic motion (eye darts) in particular sustains the illusion of a living being and illustrates internal thought processes. Flynn Rider’s death is a scene where the animation of Rapunzel’s eyes were integral to portraying the performance. The yellow line indicates the outside of the neck is in alignment to the inside of the weight bearing foot giving a sense of balance.
Eugene quickly begins to doubt himself, believing he doesn't know who is anymore after uncovering the truth about his family, past, and lineage. After a talk with Pascal, however, he comes to his senses, believing he unwittingly fulfilled the prophecy and fully devotes himself to helping Rapunzel fulfill her destiny. Edmund tries to stop them, regardless but has a change of heart when Eugene expresses his everlasting faith in Rapunzel. Edmund not only accepts Rapunzel's destiny but also aids her and Eugene in approaching the stone.
Animator Jesus Canal describes Rapunzel’s hair as being an important part of her character that required a great deal of collaboration between the animator and the technical team. (4) The technical team developed a system that combined rig-based key-frame animation with hair simulation. This allowed the character animators to control the motion, poses and silhouettes of the hair in response to Keane’s “draw-overs.” (5) This deliberate effort to extend the Disney aesthetic to the CG medium makes Tangled ideally suited to close analysis.
Genie was the first character to be designed for “Aladdin” and he was a struggle for animators to get right. While most of his characteristics are the same as they appeared in the film, this concept art makes him seem almost malicious compared to the Genie we got. Being the first feature length animated movie by the studio, Disney didn’t have a precedent for how to design their princesses.
